Mr. triple-doubles does it Again

Russell Westbrook attains NBA’s all-time triple-double record

On Monday night, he set a new record on NBA history. With 182 triple-doubles and three more matches to go this season. He has finally stripped Oscars Roberson as the person with most triple-doubles in his carrier.

Russell Westbrook isn’t a player that scarcely arrives at the 10-10-10 required for a triple-double; indeed, his normal triple-double is 24.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 12.9 assists. He regularly blows past the 10-10-10 benchmarks in the second or second from last quarter and proceeds to post probably the most extraordinary stat lines in lasting memory.

Rusell started the season with the left foot. It didn’t seem like it would go well since he got injured, and he even got sick with covid 19.

Last Saturday, Russell matched Robertson with 181 triple-doubles. And on Monday, it was pretty obvious he was determined to surpass Robert.

While many had observed Westbrook’s give his best toward this record, others have hoped to censure Westbrook by saying that he’s chasing triple-doubles and too worried about his stats.

And yet, there is one detail that discredits that claim, win rate. Westbrook’s teams have won 75.1% of the games (136-45) when he records a triple-double. That is a higher success rate than Robertson (72.4%) and Kidd (71.0%) and trails just Magic (78.3%) and LeBron (76.8%) among the leading five unequaled in triple-doubles career.

In 2016-17 Russell had already established a record of 42 triple-doubles in a single season, achieving the highest amount of triple-doubles in an NBA season

Last time someone broke an all-time NBA record was in 2011. Allen surpassed Reggie Miller on the list of all-time triples.

This event almost seems like a miracle. Breaking Roberson’s record is virtually as impossible as surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 points in one game, the number of bases stolen by Rickey Henderson’s 1406, Russell’s 11 championships, or managing to beat Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second in a 100-meter dash.

That is even truer when you look back at history, and we can see that big fishes like Magic Johnson and Jason Kidd were the only ones to go over 100 triple-doubles. With 138 and 107 by the end of their carriers, respectively.

LeBron James is on his way to be the 5th one to get to 100 plus; however, there is a big gap between 100 and 182, and LeBron might retire any time now.

Oscar is a legend, and he kept the record for 47 years. He was in OKC when Westbrook broke his single-season record, and spoke straightforwardly about rooting for Westbrook to assume control over the record.

I am dying to see how many years Russel will be able to keep the record.
